Genevieve McGuckin

As part of our commitment to capturing and sharing great Australian music stories, the Australian Music Vault asked some of the country’s most influential trailblazers and unsung heroes to open up about their lives in music.

Genevieve McGuckin is an Australian musician, songwriter, film producer and graphic designer. She played an active role in the emerging punk/new wave scene in the late 1970s and in 1987 became a founding member and keyboardist of These Immortal Souls alongside long-time collaborator and partner, Rowland S. Howard.

In this interview, Genevieve discusses moving from Brisbane to Melbourne as a teenager in search of adventure; her creative life in London and Berlin with Rowland S. Howard where they performed with Nick Cave, Lydia Lunch and Sonic Youth; and her reflections on the artistry of female musicians in the male-dominated punk scene.
